Connect your custom domain
Five minutes of setup, then your pages live on yourbrand.com with
automatic SSL. You'll add two DNS records at your registrar (GoDaddy,
Namecheap, Cloudflare, Google Domains - anywhere works).
Before you start
- A domain you own, and a login for wherever you bought it.
- A DearConvert site on the Starter plan or above.
Step 1 - Add the domain in DearConvert
- Open your site and find Custom domains.
- Click Add domain and type the exact domain you want to serve pages on - for example
promo.yourbrand.comoryourbrand.com. - DearConvert shows you the DNS records to add, each with a copy button. Keep this tab open.
Subdomain or root domain? A subdomain like
go.yourbrand.com is the easiest and safest - it can't conflict with
your existing website. Use the root domain only if DearConvert should serve your
whole site.Step 2 - Add the records at your registrar
- Log in to your registrar and open DNS settings (sometimes called DNS management, name server settings, or zone editor).
- Add each record exactly as shown in DearConvert - typically a
CNAMErecord pointing your domain at our edge, plus aTXTrecord that proves you own the domain. - Save. Most registrars apply changes within minutes; a few take up to an hour.
Using Cloudflare for DNS? Set the CNAME record to
DNS only (grey cloud), not proxied (orange cloud), so validation
can complete.
Step 3 - Wait for the green check
Back in DearConvert, the domain shows Pending until we detect your records, then flips to Active. SSL is issued automatically at the same time - there is nothing to buy or renew, ever.
If it's not connecting
- Typo check first. The record name and value must match exactly - a trailing dot or a pasted space is the most common culprit.
- Old records in the way. If the domain already has an
A,AAAA, orCNAMErecord on the same name, remove it - two records on one name conflict. - Give DNS time. Changes usually land in minutes but can take up to an hour depending on your registrar's TTL. The status refreshes automatically.
- Still stuck after an hour? Email support@dearconvert.com with your domain name - we can see exactly what your DNS is returning and tell you what to change.
